Nude Beach - Pohutukawa Bay

Located: Next to Long Bay, North Shore, Auckland.

One of the Auckland nudist beaches, Pohutukawa Bay is a beautiful sandy beach lined with a backdrop of Pohutukawa trees along the cliff. Part of Long Bay Regional Park, the beach a pleasant 15 minute walk from Long Bay. When you get to the Regional Park Car Park, drive right to the end and then walk northwards along the beach and around the rocks at low tide or follow the cliff walk at high or rising tide. Continue past Granny's Bay and onwards to Pohutukawa Bay. Do not risk getting stuck going around the rocks when the tide is incoming!

We've spent many happy days at Pohutukawa bay. It's a beautiful location with lots of shaded areas the middle of the day. There's usually around 20+ nudists there on sunny days in the summer, mostly male but some females and a couple of families too. We have two daughters ourselves and felt perfectly relaxed there. One day a couple of Police officers strolled down the beach, this was good as they obviously have it in mind to prevent or deal with any unwanted behaviour, which by the way we've never encountered there. I'd say this is probably the best nudist beach in Auckland.

I go there occasionally as I live on the Shore. It's a nice
beach and I've never had any problems there other than the
odd bloke who can't seem to take his eyes off me. I agree
with Joe it's my favourite nudist beach around Auckland.

Revisited Pohutukawa beach for the first time in about 10
months. It only had two other nudists, but it wasn't a
particularly sunny day.

I've been going to Pohutukawa Bay for the last four years. The people there are as friendly as, and some real characters go there, for sure. Every year there seems to be new people arriving, which is awesome. I was talking to one of the old timers that's been going there for the last 30 years. He said the beach used to be full ten years ago. I'm hoping it gets back to that again, so come along, enjoy the sun, the sand, the surf and, most of all, the people!

I've visited Pohutukawa Bay several times, it's a bit of a trek from Long Bay (a nice walk though especially if you take the track along the cliff tops), but worth it, the scenery is lovely. A nice little beach surrounded by "obviously" Pohutukawa trees which are amazing during the summer months. The swimming is a bit rocky, but so tranquil, a great place to let off some steam from the bustling City just down the road.

We have gone to Pohutukawa Bay twice in a row ... Gosh the view is out of this world! Park your car at the car park and go for a nice walk, past Granny's Bay and then you will find this wonderful location. It is safe and people mind their own business. We have been to many nudist beaches and never felt comfortable and safe. But this one hits the spot, lol. We will for sure go again ...

This is a great little spot! People are friendly and always welcome a chat. You soon get to know the regulars - in just a few visits so far this summer I've already made some new friends. That just doesn't happen on non-nude beaches. And it's safe - I've never witnessed any crass behaviour here. There's people from all walks of life, all ages, and family groups now and then. The beach is swimmable at all tides. It's a bit rocky and stony in parts but the middle of the beach is probably the sandiest. Going to visit Orpheus Beach tomorrow, since I'm a Westie, but I'll certainly be back at Pohutukawa again soon!
